What is a HIVE?

Primary Function.

The HIVE organisation provides an important and valuable information and community support service within the overall welfare provision for the British Forces and their dependants.  HIVEs now represent a unique tri-Service information point provided within major establishments of the Royal Navy, garrisons and units of the Army and RAF Stations.  They are open to everyone within the Service community-serving personnel both married and single, together with their families and dependants, as well as civilians employed by the Service.

Mission Statement

HIVE Information Centres will support the Service community through the provision of an impartial information and referral service.

HIVE Charter

HIVEs will seek to:

  • Offer a source of welcome and advice for all new arrivals.

  • Provide an easily accessible and topical source of information relevant to the local community.

  • Act as a point of referral to professional welfare agencies.

  • Encourage the development of a community spirit where appropriate.

Why do we need HIVE's

  • To encourage self-help, thereby promoting a sense of belonging to the community.
  • To provide an easily accessible source of information.
  • To offer a befriending service and a welcoming smile.
